What is Merge Job?
The merge job functionality allows two or more jobs to be combined. All the records from the tabs within the jobs are merged. Users have the option to select specific values from the job creation form during the merge process.
The primary purpose of the job merge functionality is to eliminate duplicate records and prevent data duplication.
How to Merge Jobs?
Work > Jobs > Select Records > MergeStep 1: Go to the Jobs Section
Click Work from the main menu and then navigate to Jobs in the sub-menu as shown in the image below.
Step 2: Choose Jobs to Merge
Select the jobs you want to merge by checking the boxes ☑ next to the jobs. Select the “Merge” option from the drop-down menu at the top left.
Step 3: Select the Primary Record
The system will now display a summary of the selected job records we want to merge.
Select the primary/master record and click the “Merge” button.
The primary/master record is the record that will be kept, whereas other records will be deleted after the merge is complete.
Step 4: Resolve Conflicts
After you select the “Merge” button, the Conflict Resolution screen will be displayed.
After resolving any conflicts, click the “Merge” button again to combine all the selected records into a single record.
What is the Difference Between the Master Copy and the Secondary Copy?
The master record is the main record that contains all the selected data from duplicate records. After jobs are merged, the master copy remains, whereas the secondary records are deleted.
Master Record Summary:
- It is the primary record
- It retains its ID and becomes the final merged version
- Stores all selected data from both itself and secondary records
- Only this remains after merging (others are deleted)
Secondary records are the two or more records chosen for the merging process. From these secondary records, we select specific values that will be included and displayed in the master record.
Secondary Records Summary:
- 2+ duplicate records selected for merging
- Deleted after merge (their data moves to the master record)
How Does the Merge Job Interface Handle Multi-Select Fields When Combining Company Records?
There are two types of fields in the merge job process:
1. Select Only One/Unique:
In the select only one/unique field, the user can select only one value from the available options during the merging process:
The following fields are of the “select only” or “unique” field types.
- Job Name
- Contact
- Start Date
- End Date
- Status
- Program
- Classification
- Sales representative
- Account Manager
2. Multiple Allowed:
In the multiple allowed field, all data from secondary copies is merged automatically. The following fields are included in this category:
- Summary
- Notes
- Shifts
- Check-Ins
- Photos
- Invoices
- Shipments
- Attachments
Merge Job Scenario Example:
In this example scenario, we have two jobs, and each job has two shifts.
Job 1: Ambassador Session 2025 with two Shifts:
- Shift 1: Ambassador Part Time
- Shift 2: Ambassador Full Time
Job 2: Accountant Part-time with two shifts:
- Shift 1: Morning Shift Accountant
- Shift 2: Evening Shift Accountant
Now, when we merge these jobs, all the shifts will also be merged and come under the master copy.
